Sharon Scheidhauer, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said that last year almost 1.1 million immigrants became naturalized citizens, after passing required history and English proficiency tests.
American citizenship is the gold standard for many folks who once lived under dictatorships or restrictive political systems, she said.
"They're amazing, extremely appreciative to this country and the freedoms we have," Scheidhauer said of those becoming citizens. "They are thankful for the opportunities in education and the economy. They don't take it for granted."

July 3rd Fireworks

mile drive to Contemporary parking--walk over to Magic Kingdom an hour before special 4 of July fireworks--stand right in the middle
Usually launch the fireworks from one location--for the finale they launched them from all over the parks--very impressive
They repeat them tonight for the 4th as well
Highly recommend
Happy 4th

View from the Contemporary Resort. (c) 2009 Noah RavitzJust in time for the 4th of July, here are the best fireworks viewing spots for the Magic Kingdom and Epcot in Walt Disney World.
Magic Kingdom:
Main Street, U.S.A.
Tomorrowland Terrace patio.
Entrance to the ferry boats at the Transportation and Ticket Center.
Magic Kingdom resorts:
Contemporary Resort 4th floor outside observation deck.
California Grill observation deck and tables with a view of the Magic Kingdom.
'Ohana restaurant at the Polynesian Resort.
Narcoossee's restaurant at the Grand Floridian Resort.
From a Disney boat on the Seven Seas Lagoon, located in front of the Magic Kingdom.
Epcot:
The Mexico and Italy pavilions offer spectacular views of the Epcot fireworks, including the Illuminations Reflections of Earth globe, which features video images.
Avoid spots in which large trees or buildings obstruct your view.
If the wind is blowing in your face, smoke will surely follow once the show starts. Find another spot.
If you don't mind missing the globe's video images and some of the fire, smoke, and laser effects that can only be seen from World Showcase, a great place to watch the fireworks is along the long walkway in front of Spaceship Earth. You will be ideally positioned to make a quick exit to the parking lot or monorail before the masses.
A great spot to view the fireworks is the small bridge between Mexico and World Showplace...ideally with a Mexican margarita in your hand.
Disney's Hollywood Studios:
Disney's Hollywood Studios offers a 4th of July fireworks show. Fantasmic! is the park's regular nighttime show, however, while the Magic Kingdom and Epcot offer fireworks every night. Moreover, Disney's Hollywood Studios was not designed to accommodate large crowds as well as the older Magic Kingdom and Epcot parks. Since the 4th of July is one of the most crowded days at the Disney parks, and Hollywood Studios is not known for its fireworks, the true fireworks aficionado would be happier at one of the older parks.

KofC
Went to a 2nd Kof C meeting in two weeks--surely two more than i have been too since joining in 1984 or so.
Last night I went to another church we have been going to Mass lately. Everyone very friendly and less formal than previous week one. Within minutes i was asked to be the 'inside guard'? I said not sure what that job entails but sure. Another few minutes later another guy was talking to me and yada yada yada
I walked out last night with a briefcase of council checkbooks and even some cash to be deposited into the bank. I am the new treasurer of the St Jude council.

Florida Wildlife
Sent: Saturday, May 02, 2009 10:59 AM
We will need to get a book of Florida wildlife
We have Disney donkeys in back yard
All sorts of birds and ducks/ egrets/ etc
We have seen deer/ turkey/ armadillos
We also did get a visual on the pond alligator last night
Some of the neighbors have said they have seen wild pigs/ bobcat/ and the elusive Florida Panther
Who needs the Zoo?

jeff surprise bday

Hi everyone.
I spoke with Terry about some possible times to throw a family surprise party for Jeff's upcoming 37th bday. How is Sunday Feb 15 around 4? the next day is a school/work holiday for most I believe. Gerry and I would be happy to host a dinner here.
if that doesn't work, we could also do lunch on monday the 16th. and sat the 14th is a smaller possibility we might be able to work with, but Jeff and Terry's kids have something that night. the 15th is also Kevin's bday, so we'd include him in the celebration of course!!
reply asap with which time works best for you, and we'll start planning.
Terry thinks we can definitely pull off a surprise!!

That's Amore!

Update
We are all set to go tomorrow--I havent heard if anyone amended any of these figures--so assuming not?
Pop still wants to pay but is nervous due to last year's Jan Outing
We think we can keep things 'under budget' with kids getting kids meals and adults sharing family style meals. So kids at one end and adults at other of table.
My 2-cents: Stay out of the press (stays fresh a year later--ive heard every angle) no ordering Mai-Tai's / 5 Volcano's/ etc. With family dining it will basically be prix fixe.
Any questions/ concerns/ additions--let me know
Surely it will be another great family get-together to celebrate family and some Jan birthday's (plus pre DISNEY/ Disney Cruise Line chatter before the big trip).
